Eddie Howe installed as bookies favourite for boyhood club Everton after turning down Celtic

Former Celtic frontrunner Eddie Howe has been installed as favourite to land the manager's job at Everton this afternoon.

It looks as though the Toffees will be searching for a new manager this summer as current boss Carlo Ancelotti closes in on a shock return to his former club Real Madrid.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Ancelotti is keen on returning to the Spanish capital after just one full season at Goodison Park, and that appears to have cleared the path for Howe.

Ex-Bournemouth boss Howe is known to have supported Everton whilst growing-up, and he sensationally pulled out of talks to succeed Neil Lennon at Celtic last week, despite several weeks of protracted negotiations.

And according to Oddschecker, Howe is the favourite to replace Ancelotti, if and when he does decide to depart the Merseyside club.

Howe is priced at 13/5, whilst Liverpool legend Rafa Benitez is currently the second-favourite for the post at 15/2.

If you fancy a punt, ex-Rangers and Dundee United striker Duncan Ferguson is available at 10/1, but most Celtic fans will probably be intrigued to see Howe's name so prominent in the discussions.

It seems there might have been more to him snubbing the Hoops than was first initially thought.
