Eddie Howe says that Newcastle United's reaction to going down to 10 men showed that there is enough fight within his squad to get out of trouble.
Howe saw the response after 10 minutes when Ciaran Clark was sent off, as a good sign and hopes that Newcastle can build on things moving forward.
Speaking in his post-game Press conference, Howe: "We had a mountain to climb so early in the game.
"We could have wallowed and had a victim mentality, but we didn’t.
"We manned up and responded to the situation.
"It is a great sign for what lies ahead.
"We were desperate for three points, but I have to cling to what I’ve seen in terms of the spirit and them giving more than what they thought they were physically capable. We’re going to need that in the battle ahead."
Howe accepts Newcastle can't keep dropping points though and when asked about the nature of the result, he said: "We know we need wins, draws aren’t going to be enough.
"But all you can do in every game is give your all and I think you saw the players gave that tonight."
