Former Celtic top target Eddie Howe is reportedly not on the list of names being considered by Newcastle United as a potential successor to Steve Bruce.
The 44-year-old is among the bookies' favourites for the looming St James vacancy, but he has yet to land his next gig in the 14 months since he departed Bournemouth.
Howe sensationally walked away from protracted talks to become the next Celtic boss in May, before left-field candidate Ange Postecoglou took the Parkhead reins.
The ex-Cherries manager has been linked with a clutch of clubs but one of English football's brightest coaches remains on the sidelines.
And George Caulkin admits the 44-year-old isn't currently in the mix at Newcastle when the time comes to appoint their next boss.
Speaking in the Athletic, he said: “I know that members of the board have discussed Howe amongst themselves, but I don’t think he’s on the list I mentioned (they don’t have to stick to that list, of course!). Howe makes sense in some ways – he built Bournemouth, took them into the Premier League and did a brilliant job.
“Newcastle is very different to Bournemouth, though; bigger, louder, far more intense and demanding of managers. Bournemouth were also relegated under him. Look at where Newcastle are in the table.”
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has also been linked and the likes of Antonio Conte and Roberto Martinez are understood to be in the frame.
