Eddie Howe explains how Newcastle's owners have helped him shock players five times quicker

Eddie Howe believes he will be able to get his message across to Newcastle United players 'five times quicker' because of the longstanding trust he has established with his staff.

Newcastle's owners allowed Howe to bring assistant Jason Tindall, first-team coaches Stephen Purches and Simon Weatherstone, and sports scientist Dan Hodges with him when he was appointed as the club's new head coach earlier this month.

The quintet all previously worked together at Bournemouth for a number of years and share a similar philosophy on how the game should be played.

The new arrivals have certainly made an impact in their first two weeks on the training ground and given the first-team squad a much-needed shock to the system as Newcastle look to get out of trouble. Indeed, sessions have been so intense that players have dropped to their knees at times.

Matt Ritchie has revealed that Howe has already brought a 'culture of improvement' to the club.; Jamaal Lascelles has admitted that 'loads of things have been different - the whole organisation, the discipline and the philosophy he's trying to implement'; and Callum Wilson has said 'he is feeling a little bit fitter and stronger'.

Howe is currently self-isolating after testing positive for COVID last week, but the Newcastle head coach has complete faith in his backroom team to physically prepare the players for Arsenal in his absence as he continues to design sessions, review footage and FaceTime individual players from his hotel room.

"They're very, very good at their jobs," Howe told the club's match day programme. "They know me, we have a relationship and we have a trust, and that trust is absolutely crucial.

"When you go to a new club and you want to get your message to your players as quickly as you can, if you have five of you, you're going to get that message across five times quicker."
