Eddie Howe doing Celtic homework after being sounded out over manager's job

Eddie Howe has reportedly started doing his Celtic homework with a view to potentially taking the job.

The former Bournemouth boss is the bookies’ favourite to replace Neil Lennon as the Hoops look to return to the top of the Scottish Premiership.

And the Scottish Sun reports that Howe is conducting his own due diligence into the club.

The former Portsmouth player is thought to be looking into the structure at Celtic, which is set to be radically overhauled in the summer.

Head off football operations Nick Hammond resigned earlier today, which strongly suggests that a new director of football is high on the agenda.

It’s an appointment that is likely to be made before any decision is taken on a new boss.

There’s also change higher up the chain in the boardroom.

Long-serving Peter Lawwell announced his plan to retire earlier this year and will step down in the summer.

He’ll be replaced by the incoming Dominic McKay, with the Scottish Rugby chief set to take the corporate reins in June.

And this will also factor into Howe’s thinking as he contemplates his next career move.

It's thought Howe has tentatively been sounded out as to whether he’d be interested, but he would require certain assurances that he’d be backed sufficiently in order to try and overhaul Steven Gerrard’s runaway Rangers.

Roy Keane, Enzo Maresca and Arsenal legend Thierry henry have all been linked with the vacancy, but Howe seems to be the stranger candidate on paper.

Celtic could face competition fir him come the summer however, with Howe touted as a potential replacement for under pressure Newcastle boss Steve Bruce should controversial owner Mike Ashley finally lose patience with him in the event of them going down.
