Eddie Howe discusses whether Newcastle will emulate Jurgen Klopp's 'heavy metal' football

Eddie Howe admits he could never tire watching the way Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool team go about their business when watching as an armchair fan. Howe has been watching the Reds intently in recent weeks in the build-up to this game.

During that time may not have learned many new things about Klopp's style of play, something he coined himself as "Heavy Metal football" during his Borussia Dortmund days. Klopp's side will line up with the same 4-3-3 formation they have in every game this season.

When asked if he one day saw Newcastle United having their own unique formation like Liverpool, Howe told Chronicle Live: "I have always had a slight element of both. Historically I always like to play one system.

"But then when you come to the Premier League and you see the strength of the teams and the tactics, the flexibility, we had to evolve and adapt and play in slightly different ways.

"Coming here the players needed some consistency in formation. We felt changing continually wouldn't be good for our development as a team.

"We've been very consistent. Even in games where tactically we knew we had games where tactically, like Tottenham, we knew the way we play with a back five that tactically that might be an issue for us.

"We wanted to be consistent in our approach. We felt that was what our team needed. In the future, I'd be very open to changing things we needed to. Our players are in a slightly different frame of mind."

When asked his thoughts on Klopp's "Heavy Metal" style, Howe said: "If it brings the results he's got - I call it whatever you want. As I said earlier he's done an incredible job. His style of football is very, very good.

"I never get bored watching Liverpool. They are very intense, attack well and press very well - and you never get dull games with his teams. That is credit to Jurgen and his coaching team. So yeah I think I can definitely take elements of their game and put them into ours."
