Eddie Howe confirms Newcastle United injury issue ahead of Premier League clash with West Ham

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak could miss Saturday's West Ham United clash due to a concussion.

Eddie Howe's side reached the Carabao Cup final on Tuesday with a 2-1 win over Southampton at St James' Park, following a 1-0 first-leg victory at St Mary's last week.

But during the match, Isak was forced off after a James Ward-Prowse free-kick struck him in the head which could see him be ruled out of this weekend's tie. Speaking after the match, Howe said Isak felt 'groggy.'

“He felt a bit groggy taking the ball to his head. I don’t know how bad that is, and I don’t know the concussion protocols,” Howe told the Shields Gazette.

Isak joined Newcastle from Spanish outfit Real Sociedad in the summer transfer window after being linked to current Premier League leaders Arsenal.

The 23-year-old has three league goals this season in five appearances having missed over 10 games due to a hamstring injury in the first-half of the season.
