Peter Grant has responded reports he was set to be appointed Eddie Howe's number two at Celtic.
The former Parkhead star was unveiled as Dunfermline Athletic's new boss on Friday, closing the door on a potential return to Parkhead.
Grant was at Bournemouth when Howe was a young player and it's been claimed he was lined up to assist the 43-year-old ahead of his expected appointment with the Premiership giants.
But the new Pars gaffer appeared to suggest the claims were borne of the historic link between the two men and nothing more.
Asked about the speculation, Grant replied: "That's because I'm a Celtic supporter and played with Celtic.
"Obviously Eddie was a young player when I was at Bournemouth so there was a lot in that.
"But this was the only job I wanted, I must admit. Out of the jobs available this summer, this was the one I wanted.
"When I was offered it was an opportunity for me. I wanted to stay a manager, that was the biggest thing.
"I wanted to stay a manager because it's on my head if it goes wrong. Sometimes, when you're a number two you have opinions but when you're a manager the chop falls on you if you're not doing your job well.
"I wanted that responsibility."
But Grant was then asked directly if he had been approached by Celtic.
And he offered this cryptic reply.
Grant said: "Listen, Eddie's a pal of mine and that's as much as I'll say.
"This is not about Celtic, this is about Dunfermline."
