Eddie Howe and the revealing Celtic admission from Stephen Welsh as defender claims incoming boss 'fits the criteria'

Stephen Welsh reckons Eddie Howe’s brand of football fits the bill to get Celtic bouncing back next season.

The Hoops youngster is waiting for the club to make a move to appoint a manager – with the ex-Bournemouth boss expected to finalise his move to Parkhead in the coming week.

Howe is set to take charge of a Celtic side that finished a whopping 25 points behind rivals Rangers – who celebrated trophy day at Ibrox at the weekend while the deposed champs slumped to a grim goalless draw against Hibs.

The Parkhead side toiled in front of goal but Welsh is convinced Howe would get the club buzzing again.

He said: “Obviously Eddie Howe was a fantastic manager for Bournemouth over the last few years. He fits the criteria. He plays good football from what I saw so it’s exciting more than anything.”

Welsh is not concerned with the wait for a new gaffer but he’s hoping to have don't enough to impress any incoming boss he can be part of the new dawn.

He said: “We’re all pretty calm about it. The club will deal with it they way they should. We’re positive about what the future holds regardless if it's a new manager and coaches, whatever, we’ll be ready to work hard for them and do well.

“I think it’s natural to think they will be watching if you have an idea a new face is coming in. You want to go out and prove how good you are, prove you should be in the team next season.

“That’s all you can do as a player.”

Celtic are set to step up the appointment this week with Howe understood to be constructing his Hoops backroom team.
There could still be a place for interim boss John Kennedy – who will conduct a debrief in the next few days before the squad breaks up for the summer.

The coach managed just five wins in his 10 games in charge as Celts limped towards the end of term.

But Kennedy is convinced the club will regroup over the close season and come back with a bang.

He said: “We’ve had a rough season this year so it’s almost like you have to close that, draw the line, hit the reset button and get Celtic back to where we belong which is at the top of the tree.”
