Eddie Howe and Newcastle suffer FA Cup nightmare as Cambridge United shock Premier League big spenders

Eddie Howe and Newcastle United have been dumped out of the FA Cup by Cambridge United.

A second-half goal from Joe Ironside shocked the Premier League side as the League One underdogs notched up a famous victory at St James' Park.

Howe included new signing from Atletico Madrid, Kieran Trippier, in a strong starting line-up that also included stars Allan Saint-Maximin and Joelinton.

Scotland international Ryan Fraser, too, was included by Howe but his team slumped to an embarrassing third round exit.

They were undone by Ironside reacting to a scramble in the box and finishing beyond Martin Dubravka in the home goal.

Cambridge were rescued in the dying seconds by keeper Dimitar Mitov, as he clawed away a Joelinton header in stoppage time.

Howe, who turned down the chance to become manager at Celtic during the summer, has been tasked with keeping the Magpies in England's top-flight following their money-spinning Saudi takeover earlier this term.
