Eddie Howe and Celtic intertwine again as Newcastle starlet Joe White linked with transfer in Shaw and Urhoghide mould

Celtic have been linked with a move for highly-rated Newcastle youngster Joe White.

But they face reported competition across the city at Rangers while there is also interest from elsewhere in England and Germany.

19-year-old White is highly-rated on Tyneside and has been on the fringes of the senior team so far this season.

He signed his first professional deal two years ago but that's due to expire at the end of the current season - meaning he will be available for a compensation fee if he doesn't pen new terms.

Chronicle Live have issued an update on his situation and they lead with Celtic 's interest, saying Ange Postecoglou's team are watching him closely.

It seems like the type of signing Celtic are favouring as they stack the club's B team under Postecoglou, following in the mould of transfers like Liam Shaw, Osaze Urhoghide and Bosun Lawal in the summer.

He also appears to fit the Australian's system as a combative, forward-thinking midfielder with a strong work-rate.

Rangers could also swoop but are likely to have other priorities at the moment as they seek out a replacement for Steven Gerrard.

Speaking on his future earlier this year, White hinted that "anything can happen".

He has been a regular in Premier League 2 so far this season, notching an impressive run of assists in the reserve games that have followed his first senior squad place as an unused sub against Manchester United.

He will now focus on catching the eye of new boss Eddie Howe but if doors don't open a summer move could also be on his mind.
