Katie Taylor's promoter Eddie Hearn has said the Bray boxer is "on the brink" of an April mega-fight against Amanda Serrano.
Taylor most recently disposed of Firuza Sharipova in December to stretch her professional record out to 20-0. She remains the undisputed lightweight champion of the world.
That fight's buildup struggled to keep the narrative on the challenge of Kazakhstan's Sharipova, and Taylor had to field a series of questions about the long-promised fight against Amanda Serrano, a seven-weight champion.
Taylor's measured response alluded to the one fight at a time approach, but most knew that once she had beaten Sharipova, all eyes could then look ahead to a matchup between two of the greatest female boxers ever.
And speaking to The DAZN Boxing Show, promoter Eddie Hearn detailed just how close the contracts were to getting over the line.
He said: "The contracts are getting finalised at the moment. We're on the brink now.
"That's the biggest fight in the history of female boxing. And it's going to be a massive fight for boxing in 2022.
"Female boxing doesn't get any bigger than this fight.
"I mean, in a way I want to stop saying 'this is the biggest fight in female boxing'. This is one of the biggest fights in boxing."
Taylor was originally supposed to face southpaw Serrano in Manchester in May 2020 but the Covid-19 situation at the time led to the cancellation of the fight.
