Eddie Hearn praises Jake Paul in bold Tommy Fury grudge-fight prediction

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn believes Jake Paul is "quite a big favourite" in his fight with Tommy Fury.

Hearn was the man behind Paul's professional debut, when he fought AnEsonGib on the undercard of his Super Bowl week card in Miami at the start of 2020. But the pair have since fallen out after their feud as rival promoters in the Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano lightweight super-fight got too heated last year.

However, the Brit is still confident Paul is going to be able to defeat Fury, who was on the verge of turning professional when the American had his first white collar fight in 2018. The pair are set to fight in Saudi Arabia on February 25, after two previous attempts to stage the bout in America fell through.

"I think it's a good fight," Hearn told IFL TV of the bout. "Frighteningly I've made Jake Paul quite a big favourite in the fight, but I think it's a god fight. If that was a sort of 50/50 fight for an undercard, it just so happens that Jake Paul is a huge name and has built a brilliant profile and Tommy Fury is a big name as well.

"So they can do that as a main event, make a load of money and I think it's quite an interesting fight because we just don't know. If that was on an undercard and you're talking about their ability that would be a good fight for an undercard. It's 50/50 with undefeated fighters.

"Jake Paul is levels above any fighter Tommy Fury has ever boxed. Shows you his resume, but I've watched some of Tommy and he hasn't looked very good recently. But can he fight? If he can fight, if he's actually a genuine prospect then he'll beat Jake Paul. If he's not and he's not very good he'll get beat, but I quite like the fight."

Bookies had previously slightly favoured Fury, but he has flattered to deceive in recent performances and has now made a habit of finding himself in cancelled bouts. He was due to face Paul Bamba in November on the Floyd Mayweather vs Deji undercard, but ended up having to take an exhibition instead after a contractual issue led him to show up way over the light-heavyweight limit.

And his upcoming bout with Paul is the third time that the pair have been scheduled to fight. He initially agreed to a bout at the Amalie Arena in Florida in December 2021, but was injured in the lead-up. He then was unable to get to New York for their August bout last year due to a visa issue.
