Eddie Hearn outlines Anthony Joshua plan if Tyson Fury fight doesn't materialise

Eddie Hearn has outlined his plan for Anthony Joshua should the unification fight with Tyson Fury to determine the undisputed heavyweight champion not materialise.

Joshua, who holds the WBA, WBO and IBF belts, has been widely touted to face Fury, who wears WBC gold, in a superfight.

However, both men already have fights planned for the summer, with AJ facing Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev in June and Fury completing his trilogy with Deontay Wilder in July - after his emphatic victory over the American last month.

Hearn and Fury's promoter Frank Warren have said they would like to see the unification fight take place after the summer bouts, but there is no deal in place yet.

And AJ's promoter has already begun making contingency plans for if the fight does not go ahead.

Undefeated Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk is the WBO mandatory challenger and Joshua could potentially face either him or British heavyweight Dereck Chisora, depending on who wins their fight on 23 May.

Meanwhile, a rematch with Dillian Whyte - who Joshua knocked out in 2015 - could also be on the cards.

"Usyk's gotta beat Chisora," Hearn told iFL TV. "But if we don't fight Fury or Wilder, we will fight Oleksandr Usyk or Derek Chisora.

"If you beat no. 1, generally you will take the no. 1 spot. Or Dillian Whyte. It's cast iron certainty at some point for that to happen. Dillian is waiting for his [WBC[ mandatory in February 2021.

"If AJ fights Fury, the winner of that fight would have to sign - the WBC would say the winner has to fight Dillian Whyte."

Hearn also claimed last Wednesday that he had entered negotiations with Fury's US promoter Bob Arum to arrange the Joshua v Fury bout for Christmastime.

However, Warren hit back at these claims, saying: "Those talks have not taken place, that is bull****.

"The only way that fight gets done is when all of the interested parties sit down to get on with it.

"A lot is being said but the reality is there is a rematch for Fury vs Wilder and Joshua has a mandatory.

"Eddie cannot keep putting this stuff out because it is disrespectful.

"There has been no conversation because the two fighters have obligations. Nothing has been said, there are no talks. It is all bull****."
