Eddie Hearn gives update on Lenin Castillo condition after Callum Smith knockout

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has given an update on Lenin Castillo's condition after he was brutally knocked out by Callum Smith this evening.

Castillo was taken out of the ring on a stretcher after being knocked out in the second.

A huge hit from Smith was decisive and left Castillo lying on his back, with the referee quickly calling the bout.

In what was a scary scene, Castillo appeared to twitch on the canvas and was then given lengthy medical treatment.

He was escorted out of the ring and is said to be on his way to a local hospital.

And now, Hearn has confirmed that Castillo is in a stable condition.

Posting on Twitter, Hearn said: "A horrible brutal knockout. Castillo is responsive and on his way to hospital."

Castillo's trip to the hospital has been described as 'precautionary'.

After oxygen was administered, it is an unwritten rule that the fighters are to be checked over.

Smith was making his light-heavyweight debut on the undercard of Anthony Joshua's clash with Oleksandr Usyk.

He will be speaking with our reporter shortly.
