Eddie Hearn gives strong response to reports linking father Barry to Newcastle United takeover

Eddie Hearn has revealed there is nothing in reports linking his father Barry to a Newcastle United takeover.

Hearn was at the Gateshead Sage to promote Lewis Ritson’s fight against Miguel Vazquez at Newcastle Arena on April 4, just a few days after a report in a national newspaper claimed his father Barry had introduced the Amanda Staveley to the Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The but when asked about his father’s potential role in a Saudi Arabian takeover of United, Eddie said: “Unfortunately, I’d love to tell you it was true but it’s absolute rubbish.

“I don’t know if our name was used to try and leverage the price of the football club but there’s not been one discussion and we are not involved in any discussions.”

Hearn also rubbished the claims his father had introduced Amanda Staveley to the crown prince of Saudi. When asked if he had ever met Staveley, he said: “Who? You'll have to speak to him about that.'"

He did reveal that he had spoken to his father about the report before travelling up today: “He said: ‘You’ve got the Newcastle presser, they'll probably ask you about the football’.

“I said ‘Anything?’ He said ‘Absolute rubbish’. Literally we do a lot of business in Saudi Arabia so maybe it’s like ‘Aww we’re speaking to the Hearns’. But unfortunately not.”
