Eddie Hearn confirms Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder stance in event of Tyson Fury defeat

Eddie Hearn has confirmed that Anthony Joshua will face Deontay Wilder if the Bronze Bomber overcomes Tyson Fury in October's trilogy bout.

The IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion is due to face Oleksandr Usyk in north London next month and victory would open the door for a fiercely-anticipated showdown with Fury.

However, that all depends on whether the Gypsy King can repeat his victory from the second fight to clear Wilder from the schedule.

The American has confirmed his intentions to fight Joshua if he sees off Fury later this year, in what would be a unification bout.

Now, Hearn has confirmed that is on the cards by stating the opponent was never important for AJ and the only objective was a unification fight.

“Whoever has the belt. It’s never been about Wilder. It’s never been about Fury. It’s just been about being undisputed and whoever has that belt [WBC]," he told the DAZN Boxing Show.

Hearn also expressed his doubts as to whether Fury's trilogy bout with Wilder goes ahead at the planned date of October 9th.

“I got a horrible feeling that fight doesn’t happen on October the 9th. I hope it does. AJ has got to take care of Usyk. This is going to be a really, really tough fight.

“But whoever wins that fight, Wilder-Fury, it’s the target because it’s only ever been about being undisputed. First things first, Usyk on September 25th.

Joshua boasts a 24-1 record, with 22 knockouts, while Fury is 30-0-1 with 21 knockouts and the draw coming in controversial fashion in his first bout with Wilder.
