Eddie Hearn believes Katie Taylor fight in Ireland is inevitable

Eddie Hearn believes Katie Taylor will fight on Irish soil before she hangs up her gloves.

All of the Bray fighter's 18 professional bouts to date have taken place in either the UK or America, but Hearn is confident that she will fight in Ireland before retiring.

Speaking on a media call on Thursday, the promoter said: “I really believe that the fight in Ireland is inevitable.

“She is the absolute boss and I’m petrified of her. So, basically, I do whatever she says, and I know she wants to do it."

Hearn, who was speaking after his Matchroom promotion signed a new five-year deal with DAZN, added: “She is absolutely a top-top tier priority for our company in terms of making sure that she receives what she deserves because she is an absolute superstar and DAZN feels that way as well."

But it could prove difficult for Hearn to stage a big fight card in Dublin.

No major boxing events have taken place in the city since the Regency Hotel shooting incident five years ago during a weigh-in.

And Taoiseach Micheal Martin said last month that there will be no big pro boxing events in the capital "any time soon".

He told Off The Ball: "I think the whole world of professional boxing is in difficulty. I worry about it.

"I've great time for amateur boxing, I'm not as enthusiastic for professional boxing any more.

"I don't believe we can see it any time soon, from what I am hearing," he said.

"It's very challenging for the athlete because they want to be the very best at their sport, but it's not a comfortable environment in some areas, no doubt about that.

"I can't see it and if that's what the Gardaí and others are saying, well that's it, we've seen what's happened here already at some events and it's not good.

"That may change but it's very problematic at the moment."
