Eddie Hearn believes Glasgow's Kash Farooq is 'one of the brightest young stars in world boxing'

Rising star Kash Farooq has been told Saturday night’s bout with Alexander Espinoza could be the launchpad to world title shots at the end of this year.

Glasgow-based Farooq is aiming to get his hands on the Nicaraguan’s WBC International Silver belt by claiming his 15th career win in the televised clash in London.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has huge belief in the former British bantamweight champion.

He said: “Kash is one of the brightest young stars in world boxing, not just in the bantamweight division.

“These are the kind of fights Kash needs, people who are going to come to win, people who will be aggressive and really test him.

“I look at it now and say, frankly we need to be looking at world title shots at the back end of this year. This is going to be a good measuring stick to tell us where we’re at.”

Farooq is desperate to play his part in an exciting Scottish boxing scene, with Josh Taylor hoping to become undisputed super lightweight champion in May, while Lee McGregor is British and European title holder at 118 pounds.

Farooq lost his British crown to McGregor in a disputed points defeat in November 2019 and a rematch could also be on the cards this year.
