"Eddie fought so hard to live," says heartbroken wife Patsy

The heartbroken wife of comedian Eddie Large has spoken of how her beloved husband ‘fought so hard to live.’

Eddie, real name Edward McGinnis, passed away in the early hours of this morning at Southmead Hospital.

Eddie, who won the hearts of the nation as part of the double act Little and Large, had been in hospital since March suffering from heart problems.

He contracted Covid-19 while in hospital, which his wife Patsy said was the ‘final straw’ for her husband.

Patsy, who lived on the Portishead Marina development with Eddie, 78, said: “We are all absolutely heartbroken.

“Eddie fought so hard to live.

“Catching coronavirus was the final straw for him.”

Patsy revealed how she had spoken to Eddie for a few minutes from his hospital bed last night.

“Our hearts are broken,” she added.

“We are all devastated.

“I just want everyone to remember him.”

His son Ryan announced the death of his Scottish comedian dad on Facebook this morning.

He said: “It is with great sadness that Mum and I need to announce that my dad, Edward McGinnis, passed away in the early hours of this morning.

“He had been suffering with heart failure and unfortunately, whilst in hospital, contracted the coronavirus, which his heart was sadly not strong enough to fight.

“Dad had fought bravely for so long. Due to this horrible disease we had been unable to visit him at the hospital but all of the family and close friends spoke to him every day.

"We will miss him terribly and we are so proud of everything he achieved in his career with Syd and know that he was much loved by the millions that watched them each week.

"RIP Dad

“We love you and miss you from all the family”
