Eddie Betts sidelined after surgery

Adelaide forward Eddie Betts has been struck down by appendicitis and is set to miss this Sunday's game against Collingwood at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Betts, 30, who was held goalless for the first time this season in Friday's win over Geelong, has undergone surgery after complaining of stomach pain yesterday.

He is expected to miss just the one match.

Adelaide assistant coach Matthew Clarke said Betts was untroubled in Friday's win at Adelaide Oval.

"It wasn't until Sunday [he was in pain], so there was no sign of it post-match," Clarke said.

"[On] Sunday obviously sore in the tummy and the doctors just got him in quickly and it is all done and dusted.

"As we say we will wait and see."

Betts gave a thumbs up from hospital and said surgery went well.

"The appendix [has been] taken out so recovering now," he said.

"I'll miss my first game for the Crows so I'll be back next week."

The Adelaide Crows are currently on the top of the ladder after 18 rounds with a six-point margin ahead of the Cats in second spot.

It is hoped Betts will return for the Showdown against Port Adelaide on August 6.
