Ed Woodward will 'refuse to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer' as Barcelona plot Manchester United raid

Welcome to the United On My Mind daily round-up, where we take a look at some of the best Manchester United stories which you might have missed.

Ed Woodward is set to depart as United's chief executive at the end of the year and his impending departure is reportedly having an impact on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's position at the club.

Donny van de Beek's future at United has also been the source of constant debate recently and he's now been linked with a move to La Liga.

And finally, Erling Haaland's name is never far away from the back pages and you'll be glad to know today is no different...

Barcelona 'want' Van de Beek

Rumours are continuing to circulate suggesting Van de Beek could be on his way out of Old Trafford.

Having been heavily linked with a move to Everton in the summer, it's now understood that the Dutchman is being monitored by La Liga giants Barcelona.

Spanish publication SPORT claim Barça want to sign Van de Beek in January but can only afford a loan deal. A Camp Nou switch would see him link up with former Ajax teammates Frenkie de Jong and Sergino Dest, and given the Netherlands international has recently appointed a new agent we can expect plenty more rumours to emerge over the coming weeks.

My opinion: Van de Beek desperately needs some game time and I wish Solskjaer would give him a chance.

However, it doesn't look like it's going to happen so I think he needs a move away. I would be reluctant to get rid of a £35 million player permanently given the lack of chances he's had at Old Trafford, so maybe a loan move would help him show what he can do and there may yet be a future for him at United.

Woodward refuses to sack Solskjaer

You probably don't need me to tell you that United were considering sacking Solskjaer after the 5-0 defeat to Liverpool and most football clubs would sack their manager after a horrible loss like that.

Does this show how incompetent the United board are? Or does it show they have patience? Either way, reports are continuing to emerge as to why Solskjaer wasn't given the boot.

Woodward will leave his role as chief executive at United at the end of this year and, according to the Daily Mail, he's reluctant to sack Solskjaer because it would 'provide a damning final comment on his time in charge'.

My opinion: If this is actually true then it's all a bit of a shambles really.

The 5-0 defeat to Liverpool was horrendous but if Woodward is keeping Solskjaer in a job for the sake of his own reputation then he deserves to be sacked even more than Solskjaer.

Where will Haaland play next season?

Haaland is understood to be top of Manchester United's summer wishlist - the problem is just about every club in Europe is after him as well.

The Borussia Dortmund striker has a reported release clause of around £70 million and that's a relative bargain given his astonishing goalscoring record at such a young age.

However, Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has now suggested Haaland will be going absolutely nowhere next summer.

Rummenigge wrote in his column for Bild (via the Daily Mirror ): “I recently had an espresso with my ex-colleague Aki Watzke in Munich.

“He told me that he was very optimistic that Haaland would still play for Borussia Dortmund next season.”

My opinion: I personally can't see Haaland not moving next summer. Dortmund are a very good club but someone of Haaland's ability needs to be playing at an elite club and so I'd be very surprised if he's not playing for someone like Real Madrid or United next year.
