Ed Woodward to beef up personal security after attack of Man Utd chief's home

Ed Woodward will have his personal security beefed up in the wake of the attack on the Manchester United supremo's home.

Woodward's Cheshire home came under attack from a group of 20 to 30 balaclava-wearing thugs, who hurled lit flares into the grounds of the property and daubed graffiti on an outside gate.

In the wake of the appalling attack, it is understood security measures around Woodward have been reviewed, with security stepped up to ensure his personal safety.

Woodward, his wife and two young children were not present at their Cheshire home when the group of thugs descended on the property late on Tuesday night.

The group were from the militant 'Manchester Education Committee', a hardcore group of United fans opposed to the regime of the Glazer family who own the club.

Woodward, who has been executive vice-chairman since 2003, was targeted for his running of United, with fans wanting the 48-year-old out of the club.

After missing United's last three games, Woodward was present at the Etihad Stadium last night for the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Manchester City .
