Manchester United are preparing for a huge transfer window with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plotting a summer rebuild.
But the Norwegian has been issued a warning regarding irrational spending by Ed Woodward, according to last weekend's Mail on Sunday .
The club have reportedly grown frustrated by a string of poor signings for inflated prices under previous managers and have warned Solskjaer not to go down the same path.
They are still trying to move on from Alexis Sanchez, who they could end up paying to leave by contributing to a significant chunk of his wages to open the door to him departing on loan.
As a result of his warning from Woodward, Solskjaer is preparing to focus his transfer strategy around young and hungry players who will prove smart investments.

Swansea winger Daniel James, 21, is reportedly close to becoming his first signing with the two clubs close to agreeing a fee of around £15m.

A bid is also said to have been rejected for Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly as Solskjaer eyes defensive reinforcements as well as new attacking talent.
