Ed Woodward's Sky Sports appearance sparks furious Man Utd transfer demand

Furious fans have hit out at executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward as Manchester United capitulate against Tottenham at Old Trafford.

United actually took the lead against Spurs, through a Bruno Fernandes penalty.

But Jose Mourinho’s men hit straight back through Tanguy Ndombele, before Heung-Min Son put the visitors in front.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men then capitulated in a staggering 17 minute display that saw them concede two more times and go down to ten men before half-time.

Anthony Martial was dismissed for a petulant slap on Erik Lamela, before Son and Harry Kane compounded the misery to send Spurs in 4-1 at the break.

It was five shortly into the second half, with United conceding their tenth goal of the season, in just their third game.

United have spent much of the summer looking for attacking signings, with the pursuit of Jadon Sancho set to come to a frustrating end.

But pundits and ex-players have already revealed their concerns at not signing more defenders, in particular, additions for the centre of Solskjaer’s defence.

And after Woodward appeared during Sky Sports' coverage of the game, fans on social media joined in with the anger, questioning why a defensive signing wasn’t made a priority.

One fuming fan said: “Someone needs to tell Ed Woodward it's not Sancho they need, it's good defenders!”

“At this rate just throw the whole Back 4 in the Bin, havent had a consistent CB pairing since Vidic and Rio were back there. No trophies in the future for this club till we sign players on that back line. Flat out embarrassing that Ed Woodward hasn’t tried making moves for defenders,” another posted.

A third questioned: “How can Ed Woodward watch this game and not think utd need at least 2 new Central defenders, that’s what happens when you have a business man running the football side of things.

“Remember when Ed Woodward (an ex-banker) told Jose Mourinho that he didn't need new defenders,” another said, while a fifth suggested: “Ed Woodward needs to get on the phone now!”

“7 years. £850m on random transfers. 4 managers. 1 common denominator. Ed Woodward. Hang your head,” another supporter concluded.
