Ed Woodward resigns as Manchester United chief in wake of European Super League farce

Manchester United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward has resigned in the wake of the European Super League falling to pieces.

The derided Old Trafford chief has a chequered history during his time at the helm of the Red Devils and his role in the shameless money grab appears to have led to his undoing.

He kept the club financially viable but struggled to deliver the success enjoyed during the halcyon days of Sir Alex Fergsuon as Manchester City have emerged under his watch.

And now Woodward's position with Manchester United has become untenable and he has exited the Premier League giants with the Super League set to be scrapped.

He resigned from the European Club Association board earlier this week and was regarded as one of the driving forces behind the power grab that has been panned by lovers of the beautiful game.

However, he has now walked away from the United top job after a major backlash.

It marks a huge night for the breakaway league with Chelsea and Manchester City have pulled out of the set-up. The English sides have reportedly not been the driving forces behind the cash grab.

Former start Gary Neville panned Woodward during a biting riposte aimed at the stakeholder from European football's biggest teams driving the proposals.
