Ed Woodward releases statement as Man Utd announce record-breaking revenue

Manchester United chief Ed Woodward insists the club are committed to providing the right investment for the team to emerge from their slump.

United announced a record revenue of £627.1million on Tuesday, with the release of their annual financial figures.

But while the club are out on their own, commercially and financially, in world football, making more money than any other club, they are failing on the pitch, with Sunday's abject 2-0 defeat at West Ham seeing them drop to eighth in the Premier League.

Fans have accused United's hierarchy of putting profits and commercial success ahead of the good of the team, a charge executive vice-chairman Woodward flatly denied in commenting on the latest financial results.

“We remain focused on our plan of rebuilding the team and continuing to strengthen our youth system, in line with the philosophy of the club and the manager," said Woodward.

"This is reflected in the recent addition of three exciting first team players, key player contract extensions and the talent we have coming through our Academy.

"Everyone at Manchester United is committed to delivering on our primary objective of winning trophies.”
