And pressure is mounting on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after another disappointing start to the Premier League season which has left them down in 15th place.
The Norwegian’s only saving grace had been superb wins over PSG and RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
But his bumper European back up even came crumbling down when United lost 2-1 to Istanbul Basaksehir on Wednesday evening.
There is now talk of Solskjaer being given the boot by those upstairs at Old Trafford.
However, that would go against a club policy brought in during the Glazer reign not to sack a manager until qualification for the Champions League is mathematically impossible.
This rule ensured that David Moyes saw out almost a full season before he was fired in 2014, while Louis van Gaal lasted two full years.
According to the Independent, Jose Mourinho was the only exception to the case as the atmosphere had become “toxic” at the club.
Solskjaer refused to comment on his future following the loss in Turkey, and insisted he was only doing the best job he possibly could.
“I decline to comment on such a thing,” Solskjaer said. “Of course, it's early on and opinions are out there all the time.
“You've got to stay strong. I'm employed by the club to do a job and I do that to the best of my ability with my staff.”
United will look to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they travel to Everton in the early kick off.
