After a disappointing start to the 2020/21 Premier League campaign, losing 1-0 at home to Everton on Sunday, Tottenham Hotspur are doing all they can to put a smile back on the fans' faces.
That is because Spurs, who face Lokomotiv Plovd in the Europa League second qualifying round this evening, are doing all they can to ensure they complete the signing of Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon and strike a shock deal for Madrid winger Gareth Bale to bring him back to North London.
Bale left Spurs back in 2013 to join the Spanish giants and has fallen out-of-favour under Los Blancos manager Zinidine Zidane.
His opportunities have been limited and he is determined to leave the club before the transfer window closes on October 5.
football.london understands that Spurs hope to announce the signings of both Reguilon and Bale tomorrow (Friday), with both players having completed the vast majority of their medicals in Spain.
It is understood that Spurs have struck a wage agreement with Madrid to sign the Welshman on loan, with Madrid set to pay 60 percent of the winger's wages.
With Tottenham now on course to land both Reguilon and Bale, which will be seen as huge statements of intent shown by chairman Daniel Levy, Manchester United will be forced to reconsider their own transfer plans.
The Old Trafford club have been heavily linked with moves for both Reguilon, who starred on loan at Sevilla last term, and Bale throughout the summer. But due to Spurs' move to try and steal both of them from underneath United's noses, the Red Devils will now be forced to look elsewhere.
It is reported by our sister title, the Manchester Evening News, that United had thought about the prospect of signing Bale on loan, as a permanent deal was something they never mulled over the prospect of doing.
With United, who will kick-off their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace this weekend, now out of the running for Bale, the club are going to put all of their efforts into striking a deal for long-term target Jadon Sancho.
The Borussia Dortmund and England star has been on United's radar all summer and they are desperate to lure him to Old Trafford before the window closes in a few weeks time.
Sancho is well aware of United's interest and would be open to a return to England if the club can strike an agreement with Dortmund.
