Ed Sheeran tour promoter DHP Family wins big at Music Week Awards

Despite stiff competition from major live music promotion companies such as Live Nation, AEG Presents and Kilimanjaro Live, Nottingham-based independent DHP Family picked up gold at the Music Week Awards 2019 last night (May 9).

Based in the Lace Market, the homegrown business which runs Rock City, Rescue Rooms, The Bodega and Stealth, Thekla in Bristol, as well as three London venues, was awarded Live Music Promoter of the Year at the event hosted by Jo Whiley.

Managing director George Akins said: "It’s a huge moment for DHP Family winning the most coveted of the live awards. We’re delighted that the hard work and growth we’ve achieved is being recognised across the industry."

DHP Family, which also runs Nottingham's annual Splendour Festival in Wollaton Park, puts on more than 1,500 gigs every year, promoting tours by the likes of Ed Sheeran, Brian Wilson, Rufus Wainwright, Flaming Lips, Beth Hart, Grizzly Bear, Enter Shikari and many more.

Said George: "We had a huge year with Ed Sheeran last summer and more shows coming up this summer to conclude the ÷ tour, as well as fantastic shows with Massive Attack, The War on Drugs, Tash Sultana among many others.”

Past awards include National Promoter of the Year at the Live Music Business Awards in 2012, 2013 and 2017.

The event attracted over 1300 people from the music industry and was held at Battersea Evolution.
