Ed Sheeran 'tests positive for Covid' and sends message to fans as he starts self-isolation

Ed Sheeran has told fans he is self-isolating after testing postive for Covid-19.

The Suffolk-based singer will now give upcoming planned interviews from home, although in-person appearances will be cancelled.

Thousands of fans commented with messages urging him to "get well soon" and "stay safe", after he shared the news on Sunday afternoon.

He said in a statement posted on Instagram: “Hey guys. Quick note to tell you that I’ve sadly tested positive for Covid, so I’m now self-isolating and following government guidelines.

“It means that I’m now unable to plough ahead with any in person commitments for now, so I’ll be doing as many of my planned interviews/performances I can from my house.

“Apologies to anyone I’ve let down. Be safe everyone.”

The pop star, who is currently promoting his new album, =, set for release on Friday, is hugely popular in the North East, with tickets for his upcoming 'mathematics' tour appearance at Sunderland's Stadium of Light proving so popular a third date was added to his visit to the region in June next year.

It comes as coronavirus infection rates rise across the country, with Government is paving the way to implement 'Plan B' measures in England to combat the spread of the virus.

Speaking on BBC Breakfast this weekend, a government advisor admitted he was "very fearful" of "another lockdown Christmas".
