Ed Sheeran tests positive for coronavirus

Ed Sheeran announced he has tested positive for Covid.

The chart-topping singer-songwriter announced the news via his Instagram page.

Sheeran said he is unable to do any in person commitments and he will be doing his planned interviews and performances from home while he self-isolates.

In his post, Sheeran said: "Hey guys, quick note to tell you that I've sadly tested positive for Covid, so I'm now self-isolating and following government guidelines.

"It means that I'm now unable to plough ahead with any in-person commitments for, so I'll be doing as many of my planned interviews/performances I can from my house."

The news that Sheeran has tested positive for Covid comes just as he was about to start promoting his new album, which is entitled '=' , and is due to be released on Friday.

He had been due to join Apple Music's Zane Lowe next week to play songs from his album and take questions from fans as part of the album promotion.

Last week, he performed in London as part of the inaugural Earthshot Prize awards, hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

He is set to return Wales in May 2022, with three gigs at the Principality Stadium.

Kicking off in April next year, the tour will see him play 27 shows across the UK, Ireland, Central Europe and Scandinavia.

Since his 2011 debut album, Sheeran has had 4 UK number 1 albums and 11 number singles.
