Ed Sheeran has revealed he is recovering from a month-long bout of shingles, while also debuting a new shaved head, which he says signifies a "fresh start".
The 35-year-old pop star shared the personal updates with his 48.7 million followers on Instagram on Tuesday.
The singer, known for global hits, posted a carousel of photos, with the cover image showcasing his new look. He explained his decision, writing: "Yes, I’ve shaved my hair. I wanted to shave it to signify a fresh start. A lot of new beginnings in my life (at the moment). I love it, thinking of keeping it this way."
Sheeran also disclosed his recent health struggle, stating: "I’ve had shingles for the last month, wouldn’t recommend it, but on the mend now."
Shingles is an infection characterised by a painful rash, with symptoms including a tingling sensation, headaches, and a general feeling of unwellness, according to NHS guidance.

Beyond his personal news, Sheeran also updated fans on his professional life, expressing his excitement for upcoming shows in South America.
He noted it had been "too long" since he performed there, revealing dates for his Loop tour across Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Mexico, and Chile. Having recently concluded a series of gigs in Australia and New Zealand, he added that he "can’t wait to get back cracking on that" as the tour continues next month.
In a more relaxed vein, the singer shared that he had "finally" caught up on the final series of Netflix's Stranger Things, which concluded earlier this year. He also recommended Barbara Kingsolver’s acclaimed novel Demon Copperhead, hailing the book as "brilliant", and mentioned a new interest in collecting vinyl records during his touring break.
The Instagram post included snaps of Sheeran playing guitar, listening to music, and a screenshot of his Netflix page.
The post quickly garnered numerous comments from fans and fellow celebrities, including singer Myles Smith, who playfully remarked on Sheeran’s new haircut: "Need a skin fade bruv."
Sheeran, whose extensive catalogue includes tracks such as The A Team, Perfect, Sing, and Don’t, has achieved 14 UK number one singles and nine UK number one albums. His latest album, Play, was released last September.
