Ed Sheeran says his daughter was a 'miracle' amid conception struggles

Ed Sheeran calls daughter Lyra a miracle – as she was conceived naturally just before he and wife Cherry were due to start fertility treatment.

“We had tried for a while to have a kid, and we’d started going to doctors and figuring out what was up,” the Thinking Out Loud singer said.

The pair had tests and were set to talk to doctors about treatment after getting back from a trip to Antarctica.

But while on holiday on the icy continent in 2019, they conceived naturally – and gave Lyra the middle name Antarctica in tribute.

Single Afterglow also references a “miracle” and “winter snow”.

Ed said: “I did think it was a miracle, so that’s why I was like, we should have this in the name.”

The singer, 30, believes taking the pressure off during their trip – when he was pictured in a David Attenborough jumper – helped them conceive.

He said: “A lot of it is mental. It’s about relaxing.

“So many of my friends have been trying different things like IVF or making sure you’re having sex at the right time on the right day, and then they go to a wedding and get p*ssed and relax and they get pregnant.”

Ed, who married childhood friend Cherry, 29, in 2019, has spoken of his hopes for a larger family, and admits he had assumed having children would be straight-forward.

“It’s not a given,” he told US radio’s The Breakfast Club. “It is a real blessing when it happens.”

But he admitted Lyra might not like hearing why she got the moniker...

“She’ll get older and be like, ‘Urgh’!” Ed said.
