Ed Sheeran's Bangkok concert to go ahead as scheduled

Online reporters

English singing sensation Ed Sheeran's sold-out concert in Thailand this month has been confirmed. after he suffered a broken arm in a bicycle-car collision.

"Ed Sheeran will start his Asia tour on 11 Nov 2017 in Singapore. The tour dates in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Mumbai and Dubai will go ahead as scheduled," read his website.

Osaka, Tokyo and Manila tour dates will be rescheduled to April 2018. All tickets for the original shows will remain valid for the new dates.

Despite best efforts, due to scheduling conflicts and limited venue availability in April 2018, he has been forced to cancel his tours in Taipei, Seoul, Hong Kong and Jakarta, according to the website.

In mid-September, he told followers on Instagram he had a bicycle accident and his website said he had a fractured wrist and elbow.

Tickets for his concert sold out in minutes when they went on sale on July 1. Seat and pit prices ranged from 1,800 baht to 5,500 baht for the scheduled gig at 8.30pm on Nov 16, at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi.

In his own words

Here is a short video Ed Sheeran made for his fans. He speaks very quickly and even I, a native speaker of English, missed a few words. Listen first and then look to see what he said.

"Hey guys, so I had a follow-up visit to the doctor today and he said that with (?) physical therapy and whatnot, I should be all right to go from the Singapore early next month. The Osaka show, the two Tokyo shows and the Manila show are going to be rescheduled for April next year, but sadly the Tapei, Seoul, Hong Kong and Jakarta dates, we just couldn't reschedule or next year. We're going to work really, really, really hard to find a time to reschedule them, but as it stands, the shows right now have to be cancelled.

"I haven't cancelled a show before. This has been like quite a difficult decision to do, but I physically can't play at the moment and it's the utmost importance to get my arms healed so that I can play, hopefully, for the rest of my life. So I hope everyone understands this. We're going to work pretty hard to come back and I hope you believe me when I say I really, really, really do want to come back and do these shows and I'm really sorry that I had to cancel them. Sorry to everyone who was affected and I hope you understand my reason for doing it and – yeah – all the love and thank you for being supportive."
