Ed Sheeran reckons South Park episode stopped his ginger hair being 'cool' in US

Ed Sheeran reckons TV cartoon South Park ruined any chance of his ginger hair ever being cool in the US.

The hugely successful singer song writer insisted US fans never regarded the hue of his hair as an issue until an episode of the darkly satirical comedy.

But despite this, Brit Ed is a big fan of the series and would like to voice himself if he ever is featured in the show.

Ed , 30, said: “Having red hair in England was always a thing that people took the p*** out of you for. But it was never something in America. People never knew what a ginger was in America.

“That episode of South Park f****** ruined my life. I was going to America and everyone was like ‘I love your hair dude.’ And I was like ‘Oh my God, people like my hair?’

“And then I remember that episode coming out and that was just it worldwide for the rest of my life.”

Speaking on Slam Radio, Ed was referring to episode 136, Ginger Kids, which first aired in November 2005 and had the line “the ginger gene is a curse”.

In it, Cartman is led to believe he has contracted a mysterious and sudden onset of “gingervitis”.

The episode supposedly inspired 2008’s National Kick a Ginger Day during which several students with red hair were assaulted.

Sheeran has appeared in The Simpsons cartoon and had a cameo in season seven of Game of Thrones.
