Ed Sheeran concert Belfast: Updated travel advice from PSNI

The PSNI have issued updated and essential travel advice this evening for those heading to the Ed Sheeran concert.

The excitement is building as up to 40,000 fans head to the Boucher Road Playing Fields in South Belfast to watch the singer-songwriter on his second date in the city.

On Thursday some fans said they were left disappointed as they faced delays in accessing the venue at Boucher Road Playing Fields.

There were reports of "chaotic scenes" at the entrance to the site and that "thousands were being refused entry" over issues with verifying tickets.

In the wake of this the PSNI have issued the following details.

In a statement they said: "With over 40,000 people at Boucher playing fields this evening, we are reminding everyone attending the Ed Sheeran to stay safe and asking road users in the area to plan for some disruption.

"Plan your journey in advance – if driving to the event, park legally, don’t obstruct access to residential or business properties.

"There is no parking available in the vicinity of the venue. Patrons are advised to park in the city centre and either walk to the concert, or use the special Translink Metro and rail services. There will not be any ‘drop off’ points in the area of the event site.

"Once again, strict traffic restrictions will be implemented from 9pm through to midnight, to ensure the safe exit of people from the venue.

"Motorway off-slips at Stockmans Lane / Kennedy Way will be closed, with traffic diverted via the Broadway roundabout.

"Boucher Road and Stockmans Lane will also be closed to traffic between 9pm and midnight. ‘Pick ups’ should be arranged at locations well away from the Event site, bearing in mind the likely traffic disruption in the area.

"Motorists must comply with directions of police officers, event staff and any mobile variable message signs or overhead gantrys on the Westlink/ M1."
