Ed Sheeran breaks new record with highest grossing tour of all time

He sings about how his baby doesn’t want his money on his latest album – but if she did, there is plenty of it.

And the 28-year-old has broken another record by scoring the highest-grossing music tour of all time.

Ed’s Divide Tour has taken a eye-watering £608million, according to Pollstar, knocking Irish rock icons U2’s 360˚ Tour off their perch.

And early estimates predict the total could end up around £640m when the tour – his third – finishes in Ipswich in his home county of Suffolk on August 26, raking in an average £3.3m a night.

“This is amazing,” Ed says of the record. “I feel very lucky to have experienced all of the wonderful countries and crowds over the past 2.5 years. Thank you to the fans and everyone who made it possible.”

It’s quite a change from 10 years ago when he slept on the streets in London, or “on the Circle Line”.

But Ed, who’s net worth was £160m in the latest Sunday Times Rich List, insists that money and success aren’t what spur him on but a desire to inspire youngsters to become chart stars.

“To be successful you have to be broke,” he explains.

“You have to spend two or three years living on strangers’ couches. I never made music for money, so now money and success have come in, it makes your life better, more comfortable, but it is not what drives you.

“You continue going because you are striving to be a better musician, and therefore by doing that, more comes in.

Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran muck about on a hike

“If you chase something, you won’t end up getting it but if you strive to be better at what you do every single day, then the rest follows.”

Wise words.

Maybe he can call his next tour Addition because his money is certainly adding up...
