Ed Sheeran awkwardly corrects The One Show’s Alex Jones after on-air blunder

Ed Sheeran was forced to awkwardly correct Alex Jones on The One Show after she accidentally made a string of blunders relating to his incredibly successful career.

The Galway Girl hitmaker, 30, joined Alex and co-host Ronan Keating on the show to promote his brand-new single Bad Habits which was released earlier this week.

During the candid interview, host Alex showered Ed in endless praise and compliments as she looked back on his sensational climb in the music industry.

Alex gushed: "Now then Ed, we're coming to you with stats.

“Because the stats surrounding your career are pretty off the scale. Apparently artist of the decade last year?"

Despite her well-meaning compliment, things took an awkward turn when the singer was forced to correct the presenter.

"Err, yeah, yeah in England, well the UK,” Ed replied.

Viewers couldn’t help but cringe when Alex made another slip up when clapping back at The Shape Of You hitmaker.

"Aye, don't play it down," she teased.

“The most attended tour, apparently 8 million people came to see you on tour."

The awkward tension reached an all-time high when Ed corrected Alex for the second time after she got her stats wrong again.

“It was nine million,” Ed giggled.

To which Alex replied: “Nine, nine, nine ok.”

Following on from the awkward blunder, viewers were once again left cringing when Alex made another error in relation to Ed’s last album.

The TV star asked the singer: "Err, most songs from the last album reached the top twenty?"

"Well, that was kind of like a mistake of the way that they like ordered the charts anyway, I’ll let you carry on, thank you," added Ed.

"Don't spoil it we’re on a roll here," Alex hit back.

“I have second-hand embarrassment after witnessing that,” another replied.

“I love Alex Jones with all my heart, don’t get me wrong. But girl, do your research,” another complained.

Meanwhile a third chimed: “Guys relax, it’s live TV. These things happen.”

The One Show airs weeknights at 7pm on BBC One.
