Ed Ruth excited to fight alongside fellow Penn State alum Phil Davis for the second time at Bellator 231

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Friday’s Bellator 231 card has a distinct Penn State vibe.

For the second time in their careers, welterweight Ed Ruth and light heavyweight Phil Davis will compete on the same Bellator card. Ruth (7-1 MMA, 7-1 BMMA) will take on former LFA champion Jason Jackson (10-3 MMA, 1-0 BMMA), before Davis (20-5 MMA, 7-2 BMMA) battles newcomer Karl Albrektsson (9-2 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) in the co-main event.

At Thursday’s media day, both fighters expressed their enjoyment fighting on the same fight as one another in consecutive main card fights.

The first time the two combatants competed back-to-back was at Bellator 186 in November 2017. The event was actually held on the Penn State campus and saw both former PSU wrestlers end their fights inside the distance by stoppage due to strikes.

On the prospect of fighting alongside “Mr. Wonderful” again, Ruth said “I always love fighting on the same card as Phil Davis. He’s just an awesome guy. I look up to him all the time. Every time I get the chance to fight with him on the same card, I really want to show out.”

Bellator 231 takes place Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The main card airs on Paramount and streams on DAZN following prelims on MMA Junkie.
