KOLKATA: The Enforcement Directorate, looking into the illegal cattle trade, on Thursday questioned Sukanya Mandal, daughter of TMC leader Anubrata Mondal, for the second consecutive day over her sudden spike in her income — "unusual for a primary teacher".
The agency officials on Thursday also questioned chartered accountant Manish Kothari and businessman Rajib Bhattacharya in connection with the case.
Both Mandal and Kothari have again been summoned on Friday.
During a nearly seven-hour long questioning, ED officials wanted to know about alleged "adjustment entries" in the companies and rice mills she owned.
It was alleged that four shell companies were involved in routing the "ill gotten money" Enamul Haque had allegedly paid Sukanya and her father Anubrata Mandal.
The central investigating agencies have tracked at least Rs 4.2 crore reflected as "adjustment entries" in the balance sheet of Neer Developers and ANM Agrochem Foods.
Manish Kothari had allegedly got hold of a person — Manoj Mahnot — for doing the adjustment entries.
Mahnot allegedly received cash from Kothari and transferred that to Sukanya's accounts.
This led to a stellar rise of fortune for the family.
Rajib Bhattacharya, a businessman close to Mandal had allegedly paid nearly Rs 66 lakh when Mandal's wife was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Newtown.
The central agency officials wanted to know his financial involvement with Anubrata Mandal who had allegedly been facilitating the illegal cattle trade in Birbhum.
"Bhattacharya has appeared before the agency for the first time and he will continue to cooperate with the agency," said his lawyer Sanjib Dan.
