Ed Oliver puts on a show at Houston’s pro day

The Detroit Lions were among the NFL teams flocking to Houston to check out the Cougars pro day. While there were several prospects worthy of investigating, the headliner stole the show.

Defensive tackle Ed Oliver put on another incredible athletic display during the pro day. At 281 pounds, the versatile lineman posted some outstanding speed and agility numbers. He was down six pounds from his combine weight and more representative of his playing weight.

How dynamic were his numbers?

Oliver, who primarily played nose tackle for the Cougars, ran a faster 40-yard dash time and almost the exact same short shuttle time as Lions cornerback Teez Tabor back in 2017.

Oliver is definitely in the mix for the Lions at No. 8 overall.

Another Cougar of note is cornerback Isaiah Johnson. The 6-2, 208-pounder clocked a 4.4 40 at the combine and wowed in explosion drills. He suffered a pectoral injury doing the bench press on Thursday, however. If he’s healthy, Johnson is a middle-round prospect with serious upside and some potential to move to safety as well.
