Ed Miliband's short film where everyone is vegan and tackling climate change

So the Extinction Rebellion is storming ahead into a second week of climate change protests – as thousands yesterday flooded into London’s Natural History Museum.

And with both sides of the debate getting heated, this looks set to be just the first wave in a global fight to save the planet.

Yet who has stopped to wonder what Earth would really be like if we do actually tackle climate change?

Ed Miliband certainly has.

In fact, the former Labour leader rather fancies himself as Prime Minister. How do I know?

Because he’s acting the part in a bizarre short film “What If”, which currently has more than 20,000 hits on YouTube.

Made by the team behind Channel 4’s The Age of Stupid, it is set in a parallel universe where the Green Party’s Caroline Lucas is President of the EU, single-use plastic and petrol cars are banned, and oil corporations are going bankrupt.

However, it is the scenes with Ed – playing “Fred Miliband” – that will really delight his supporters.

As he finally gets to address the nation outside 10 Downing Street, he makes his solemn vow: “It is our moral duty to work tirelessly with other countries to win the fight against climate change – and that is what I am now going to do!”

Clearly the film has a serious message. But fortunately for Ed – sorry Fred – it’s also a world where everyone is vegan.

So there won’t be a career-killing repeat of this moment...
