Ed Balls reminisces Strictly Come Dancing stint as he performs live from lockdown

From Gangnam Style to the bongo drum: who knew ex-Labour MP Ed Balls’ cultural talents spread so far and wide?

The former Strictly Come Dancing favourite pulled out a drum and tapped out an enthusiastic performance as part of an online jam, The CCC Festival, on Sunday night, alongside musician Ciaran Algar.

Ed said afterwards: “Made my festival debut tonight. I loved it, and I think I managed to keep in time. The things we end up getting up to in lockdown!”

Keep practising, Ed, and you might just make it to The Healing Field tents in Glastonbury.

Handily enough, you’ve got an extra year to perfect your act.

Since leaving politics behind in 2015, ex Labour MP Ed Balls has become a firm face in the entertainment industry.

He had an iconic stint on  Strictly Come Dancing  in 2016 where his rendition of  Gangnam Style  went down a storm with the nation.

He’s been married to Labour MP Yvette Cooper for 22 years and the pair have three children, Ellie, Maddy and Jo.

The family split their time between their London and Castleford homes.

Speaking to Mirror Online earlier this year, the former politician recalled his time on the dance show.

When asked if he would sign up for any other TV shows, he said: "For me, Strictly is the best one, so I feel I should quit while I’m ahead. It was great to be dressed up performing as The Mask and then on the Today programme talking about politics."

He added: "I remember Nick Robinson asking me about central bank independence and needing to ask me about Strictly afterwards.

"There wasn’t a natural link between my two roles at that time but I always found one."
