Ecurie Ecosse LM69 will be a modern racing classic

A BRAND new classic race car reimagines what a Le Mans racer built by Scotland’s Ecurie Ecosse team might have looked like in 1969.

The LM69 only uses technology and materials that would have been available to the Edinburgh-based team and applies it to the shape and design of Jaguar’s ill-fated XJ13 prototype race car.

The result is a what-might-have-been Le Mans car that 25 lucky customers will be able to buy, though manufacturer Ecurie Cars has yet to confirm the price. Each car will be offered with either a 5.3-litre or 7.3-litre Jaguar V12 for a top speed of more than 200mph.

Fortunately, the Ecurie Ecosse LM69 comes with aerodynamic additions the XJ13 did not have, so it can cope with such high velocities.

Unlike the XJ13, the LM69 has a closed cockpit and uses composite materials available in 1969 to be lighter and stronger than Jaguar’s one-off original that was crashed in 1971 and later rebuilt.
