Ecuador Football Federation Condemns Players' Strip Club Visit Incident

FEF condemns players' actions at strip club in New York.

The Ecuador Football Federation (FEF) has issued a statement condemning the actions of several of its players who were seen at a strip club during the international break. The players involved include Robert Arboleda, Gonzalo Plata, and Kendry Páez, with video footage circulating on social media showing them at a club in New York.

The incident is believed to have taken place on Friday, following Ecuador's friendly win over Guatemala. In the footage, Arboleda is seen displaying a wad of dollar bills while a stripper performs in front of Páez and Plata.

The FEF clarified that the players were given time off on Friday, which they adhered to. However, the federation expressed disappointment over the players' actions, stating that the images contradict the values and principles they uphold.

While the FEF did not mention any specific disciplinary measures, it indicated that the incident would be considered in future call-ups. The players involved, including Páez who is a minor, have faced criticism from various quarters.

Ecuador's sports minister, Andrés Guschmer, acknowledged that Páez was deeply affected by the situation and emphasized the need for him to learn from his mistakes. Guschmer highlighted the importance of maintaining a positive image and professional conduct, especially considering Páez's young age.

Páez, a midfielder, recently signed a deal with Chelsea and is set to join the club when he turns 18 in 2025. The incident has sparked controversy in Ecuador, with calls for accountability and reflection on the part of the players involved.
