Oct. 18--A 24-year-old Oak Lawn man found himself in court on felony charges Saturday after he used Snapchat to arrange to sell 1,000 Ecstasy pills to someone, and the buyer turned out to be an undercover police officer, prosecutors said.
Michael McConville, 24, was arrested Friday after an Illinois State Police officer contacted him Tuesday through the social media platform Snapchat and agreed to buy 1,000 pills of Ecstasy from him at $5.50 a pill, according to Orland Park police reports. The officer also asked to buy two wristbands to the "Freaky Deaky" music/rave festival at Toyota Park in Bridgeview that McConville said he was selling.
The two agreed to meet at a Mariano's at 11000 S. Cicero Ave. in Oak Lawn, according to police reports.
The officer met McConville about 2:15 p.m. Friday in the Mariano's parking lot, according to police reports. After McConville handed the officer a bag of pink Ecstasy pills, the officer signaled that the deal had been made. Other officers approached the car and arrested McConnville.
McConnville told arresting officers that he had a gun with a bullet in the chamber, and police removed a loaded .45-caliber Sig Sauer P220 from his waistband. The gun was reported stolen in the burglary of a Crestwood home in July.
Police searched McConville's Toyota Camry and found a silver, eight-round magazine holding 8 rounds of ammunition, according to police reports.
McConville was charged with armed violence, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance.
He was ordered held on $100,000 bail Saturday in Cook County Bond Court.
McConville previously has been convicted of felony drug possession and criminal damage to property, according to court records.
