ECPR to investigate incidents during Munster and Saracens Champions Cup clash

Champions Cup bosses are investigating the incident that resulted in a "30-man brawl" in Munster's loss to Saracens at Allianz Park on Saturday.

While Munster hoped that the matter was closed with an apology from team doctor Jamie Kearns to Sarries hooker Jamie George, it has emerged that EPCR have decided to investigate the second half flashpoint.

A statement from EPCR today read: "Information will now be sought from the match officials and from both clubs, and EPCR will be making no further comment until the investigation has been completed."

The European and Premiership title holders had been mulling over making an official complaint to tournament chiefs after England international George was allegedly verbally abused by the Kearns on the touchline.

George reacted and a large number of players got involved. Speaking live on TV during the game, Saracens' coach Alex Sanderson claimed: "The doctor made a derogatory remark about Jamie's weight, which didn't go down very well'.

Saracens went on to win 15-6, a result that leaves Munster's pool wide open with two rounds.

While Munster head coach Johann van Graan said afterwards that he hadn't seen how the incident was instigated, Sarries' director of rugby Mark McCall admitted the club would reflect before deciding whether to take the matter further.

"We need to decide what we're going to do before I start speaking about it," McCall said. "From what I know, something pretty bad was said at Jamie.

"He wouldn't have reacted the way he reacted otherwise.

"We'll take our time to decide. Clearly it shouldn't happen, we all know that. I don't think what was said to Jamie was good at all. We'll see...it started a 30-man brawl".
