Economy to grow more than 1% this year: Arkhom

Finance Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith atteds at the Fiscal Policy Office's virtual seminar titled "From Pandemic to Endemic" on Oct 18, 2021.

The economy is expected to grow by more than 1% this year, helped by improved exports and government measures as well as a gradual recovery in tourism, Finance Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said on Wednesday.

The economy suffered a 6.1% economic slump last year, with the vital tourism sector still struggling. Thailand will reopen to vaccinated visitors from 45 countries from Nov 1.

The government also plans to introduce additional economic measures, Mr Arkhom told reporters:

"The measures are being discussed within the finance ministry," he said, without elaborating.

The Finance Ministry has forecast economic growth of 1.3% this year, with exports up 16.6%. It will release updated projections on Thursday.

The ministry's economic outlook is more optimistic than the Bank of Thailand's outlook of 0.7% growth this year and Kasikorn Research Centre's 0.2% expansion.
