Economic chill hits Canada's media

Where the US newspaper industry goes, so Canada's appears to be following. Journalism blogger Mark Hamilton writes: "We keep hearing that Canada is in so much better shape, economically, than other areas of the world, and that our newspaper culture here is fundamentally different, but what I'm seeing doesn't reflect that."

He points to the falling share price of Canada's largest media company, CanWest. At 58 cents, it's "worth less than a cheap cup of coffee." And other Canadian media companies "are also down at least 50-60% from their 52-week highs."
